Alta council hires code officer, okays sidewalk grant application

The Alta City Council hired a code officer and heard an update from Street Superintendent Brad Pedersen during its electronic meeting Aug. 3. The electronic meeting protocol was authorized as a result of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ State Public Emergency Declaration issued on March 20, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and referencing Iowa Code in relation to open meeting laws.
Discussion was held on hiring a code officer after background checks were conducted. The council approved hiring John Stange at $18 per hour, including a 90-day probation period. Wes Bunjes voted nay.
Pedersen provided a written report and answered council questions. He reported there has been three tree trimming companies in town and they will continue to work hard through August.
